GNC GROUP STRENGTHENS ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH MELBOURNE BUSINESS SCHOOL

Management consulting firm GNC Group was on campus at Melbourne Business School this week to engage with MBA students and outline some of the opportunities within their growing business.

GNC Group partner and MBS alum Luke Ritchie (MBA 2007) said afterwards:

It's always great to come back to Melbourne Business School and connect with a new batch of MBA students. We again emphasised the critical importance of bringing high quality people into our business. We have tripled in size over the past two years, and have an ongoing demand for new consulting talent.

We now have more than a dozen Melbourne Business School graduates within our growing team, and are keen to maintain our strong relationship with MBS. That's why we are working with the MBS team to establish a formal GNC Group internship program for current students.

GNC Group partners Luke Ritchie and Jamie Downs were joined by several GNC Group consultants who shared some of their experiences working with GNC Group client engagements. Priji Vijayakumar (MBA 2012) outlined the variety of consulting engagements he has experienced at GNC Group:

I’VE JUST FLOWN IN FROM SYDNEY TODAY WHERE I AM WORKING WITH ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S LEADING RETAIL BUSINESSES ON A SUPPLY CHAIN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. PREVIOUSLY I HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN MELBOURNE WITH SEVERAL LEADING RETAILERS.

GNC Group is a Melbourne-based consulting firm with its origins in operational commercial finance within the retail industry. The past year has seen significant growth, with the firm formally opening offices in Sydney and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Now in their seventh year and with a growing team of 56, GNC Group continues to expand their portfolio into other industry sectors including government, manufacturing, not-for-profit and utilities.

In addition to outlining how their business works and what they are looking for in new consultants, Luke emphasised GNC Group’s values as being the standard against which they recruit new talent, saying:

WE ACTIVELY VALUE DIVERSITY. IT’S NOT BY ACCIDENT THAT THIS IS OUR FIRST OF FIVE VALUES – WE HAVE 15 NATIONALITIES WITHIN OUR TEAM AND A VERY BROAD RANGE OF INDUSTRY SECTOR BACKGROUNDS. WE FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT OUR TEAM COMPOSITION MUST REFLECT THE BREADTH OF OUR CLIENTS, PARTICULARLY AS WE FURTHER GROW OUR BUSINESS IN ASIA.

Associate Director of Career Services at MBS, David Tan, said:

The MBS students really appreciated the authenticity and open style of the GNC Group partners and consultants. GNC Group seem to truly understand the value and impact that our MBA graduates can bring to their business and its clients.

Current MBA student Nicole Teng liked what she heard, saying:

I REALLY ENJOYED THE PRESENTATION FROM GNC GROUP LAST NIGHT. I FELT STRONG RESONANCE WITH THEIR NON-HIERARCHICAL CULTURE AND HANDS-ON APPROACH ON PROJECTS, WHICH ENABLES GNC GROUP TO CREATE A CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY WITHIN THE ORGANISATION AND ACHIEVE A GREAT BALANCE BETWEEN ADVISORY AND EXECUTION. THEIR DIVERSITY OF ENGAGEMENTS ACROSS FUNCTIONS OF BOTH RETAIL AND OTHER INDUSTRY SECTORS PROVIDES EACH CONSULTANT WITH EXTENSIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP THE BREADTH AND DEPTH OF THE KNOWLEDGE SET AND SKILLSET THROUGH ON-THE-JOB TRAINING, WHICH IS A GREAT WAY TO GROW AND RETAIN TALENT.
